# LinkedIn Ads

> Attribute LinkedIn ad clicks to the conversions they produce.

When you finish, visits from your LinkedIn ads show as **LinkedIn Ads** on **Attribution**, with your campaign names from the UTMs.

## What works today

| Capability | Status |
| - | - |
| LinkedIn click attribution (`li_fat_id`) | Live. Needs no connection |
| URL template for LinkedIn ads | Live, in **Track** |
| Conversions API delivery | Coming soon |
| LinkedIn Insight Tag through DATALYR | Coming soon |
| LinkedIn spend and ad stats | Not available |

The **LinkedIn Ads** row in **Sources** reads **Coming soon**. You don't need it for attribution.

## Before you start

| Requirement | Detail |
| - | - |
| Tracking script | On every page your LinkedIn ads send traffic to. See [Install](/installation/index) |
| Enhanced conversion tracking | On for your Insight Tag in LinkedIn. It makes LinkedIn add `li_fat_id` to every ad click. It's on by default for new Insight Tags |

## Tag your ads

<Steps>
  <Step title="Create a link">
    Open **Track**. Create a link to your landing page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Copy the parameters">
    Under **paste into your ads**, find **LinkedIn Ads**. Select **copy parameters**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Paste them in Campaign Manager">
    In LinkedIn Campaign Manager, add them as URL tracking parameters at the account level.
  </Step>
</Steps>

```text theme={null}
utm_source=linkedin&utm_medium=paid_social&utm_campaign={{CAMPAIGN_NAME}}&utm_content={{AD_SET_NAME}}&utm_term={{AD_NAME}}&campaign_id={{CAMPAIGN_ID}}&adset_id={{AD_SET_ID}}&ad_id={{AD_ID}}
```

LinkedIn renamed its levels in October 2025, and its macros moved with them. Use the names above, not older guides.

| LinkedIn level | Macro | Older macro with the same meaning |
| - | - | - |
| Campaign | `{{CAMPAIGN_ID}}` | `{{CAMPAIGN_GROUP_ID}}` |
| Ad set | `{{AD_SET_ID}}` | `{{CAMPAIGN_ID}}` |
| Ad | `{{AD_ID}}` | `{{CREATIVE_ID}}` |

LinkedIn accepts dynamic parameters at the account or campaign level only, not per ad.

## Reference

| What the tracking script records | Where it comes from | Shows as |
| - | - | - |
| `li_fat_id` | The landing URL | **LinkedIn Ads**, channel `linkedin` |
| `utm_source=linkedin` with a paid `utm_medium` | The landing URL | **LinkedIn Ads** |
| A `linkedin.com` or `lnkd.in` referrer, no click ID | The browser | **LinkedIn**, not paid |
| `_li_fat_id` | LinkedIn's own `li_fat_id` cookie, if your Insight Tag set it. Marketing consent only | Kept on the event for LinkedIn delivery |

A click ID beats UTMs. A visit with `li_fat_id` is a LinkedIn ad click, whatever its UTMs say.

## Verify

1. Click one of your live LinkedIn ads.
2. Open **Events**. Find the page view.
3. Confirm the event carries `li_fat_id`, and `utm_source` reads `linkedin`.
4. Open **Attribution**. Confirm the visit appears as **LinkedIn Ads**.

## When it does not work

| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
| - | - | - |
| No `li_fat_id` on the landing URL | Enhanced conversion tracking is off | Turn it on in your Insight Tag's settings in LinkedIn |
| `li_fat_id` on the ad URL, gone on the page | A redirect dropped the query string | Keep the query string through every redirect |
| Campaign fields empty on link clicks | The macros sit on a DATALYR redirect link, where LinkedIn can't fill them | Paste the parameters into Campaign Manager |
| Campaign names look one level off | The parameters use pre-October-2025 macros | Replace them with the names above |
| Conversation Ads or Message Ads have no parameters | LinkedIn doesn't add URL parameters to these formats | Nothing. Use a different format for tracked clicks |
