# Track Links

> Create trackable links with UTM parameters for campaign attribution

Track Links generates campaign tracking links with UTM parameters, making it easy to attribute traffic and conversions to specific campaigns, ads, and channels.

## What It Does

**Creates Trackable URLs:**

* Adds UTM parameters automatically
* Generates short links (optional)
* Tracks clicks and conversions
* Works with any destination URL

**Tracks:**

* Link clicks
* Visitors from link
* Conversions attributed to link
* Revenue per link

### UTM Parameters

**Required:**

* **utm\_source:** Traffic source (google, facebook, newsletter)
* **utm\_medium:** Marketing medium (cpc, social, email, referral)
* **utm\_campaign:** Campaign name (summer\_sale\_2025, launch\_week)

**Optional:**

* **utm\_term:** Paid keyword terms
* **utm\_content:** Differentiate similar content (blue\_button, header\_banner)

### App Links

Create tracking links that redirect to app stores for mobile app campaigns:

**How It Works:**

1. Go to Track -> Create Link -> select **App Link**
2. Enter your iOS App Store URL and Android Play Store URL
3. Add UTM parameters for campaign tracking
4. Use the generated link in your ad campaigns

The link redirects users through a page on your domain where the DATALYR web SDK captures attribution data before sending users to the app store. The mobile SDK then matches the install back to the original ad click.

## How It Works

### Attribution

Links created in DATALYR automatically attribute traffic:

**Click Flow:**

1. User clicks tracked link
2. UTM parameters captured by DATALYR
3. All events from session tagged with campaign
4. Conversion attributed to original link
```

### Bulk Link Creation

## Best Practices

**Use Consistent Naming:**

```
Good:
utm_source=facebook
utm_medium=social
utm_campaign=summer_sale_2025

Bad:
utm_source=FB
utm_medium=Social Media Post
utm_campaign=Summer Sale
```

Lowercase, underscores, consistent format.

**Be Specific with utm\_content:**

```
utm_content=blue_cta_button
utm_content=hero_banner_mobile
utm_content=exit_popup

Helps identify exact creative/placement
```

**Don't Use for Internal Links:**

```
Don't add UTM parameters to links within your site.
Only use for external traffic sources.
```
